Dr. Sherry-Ann Brown pursued a cardiology fellowship at the prestigious Clinician Investigator program at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She is board certified in cardiovascular medicine. She has particular expertise in the connection between cardio-oncology and preventive cardiology.
Dr. Brown, a cardio-oncologist, supports her patients on their amazing path to cancer survival. She supports people with or without cancer in preserving their hearts as a preventive cardiac physician. Read her famous poem about defending the heart during cancer treatment that was published in a medical oncology magazine.
She received her medical education at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut, as a part of the competitive Medical Scientist Training Program, which is supported by the NIH. She simultaneously earned a PhD in Biomedical Science and an MD (Computational Biology). Her clinical and research work also focus on precision medicine, artificial intelligence, digital health, and other types of innovation in cardio-oncology and preventive cardiology.
She has held leadership positions on national committees for the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC), as well as the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Her innovations and service have resulted in first or senior authorship of over one hundred medical and scientific articles in leading journals such as Circulation, JACC, and JAHA. She has also edited a textbook for the international publisher Elsevier. In addition, she has written textbook chapters for international publishers such as Springer. She has published science/medicine poems, and has received a number of awards and nominations, and given various invited medical seminars and lectures, and keynote and grand round presentations.
Her involvement in international medical missions and anti-human trafficking for two decades included being a mentor or team leader for annual medical volunteer efforts throughout the USA and in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Cuba, and Jamaica. She helps provide micro-financing support to women in the United States and across the world, such as women in Latin America making school uniforms - these efforts help protect women and children from human trafficking.
